Sadly, I spent most of last week in bed with migraines. I tend to get them with seasonal changes like extreme temperature or humidity shifts. This usually means that I get a migraine two or three times a year. However, this spring has been brutal with temperatures climbing to the mid 70’s one day and 50’s the next. It was the rain that brought them on last week. Today is my day off and my first day without a headache or residual weakness and I’ve spent most of it with some very slippery silk charmeuse.

Probably not the best choice when your looking for a relaxing project! My first time working with charmeuse ended in disaster but I’m hoping with some patience I can churn out a beautiful blouse.

I hope your week is starting out well! Any fun projects you’re working on?

  1. I can totally relate to the woes of migraines. My mum and I are both prone to them as well, and we think changes in air pressure can bring them on, as well as the things you mentioned. Not fun!!

That fabric is gorgeous! Where did you get it? The texture looks divine! 🙂 With that and the lovely soft colour, it looks so soothing – despite the fact I know it can be a slippery sucker, it looks good for the soul 🙂

  2. So sorry to hear you were ill, but glad you’re starting to feel better! I’ve had one migraine in my life, and I certainly hope it was the last, so I really sympathize with you. Your silk looks lovely!

  3. Migraines sound aweful. I have never had one (knock on wood) but they sound utterly horrible. I’m glad you’re feeling better today and hopefully, you will be on the mend the rest of the week.

Charmuese is difficult to work with. My advice is to hand baste as often as possible and when cutting, lay tissue paper (or newspaper that has been ironed to eliminate the creases) underneath the fabric. Pin and cut through all layers. It’s a huge help for me and has yet to let me down!

  4. That blue silk is gorgeous!

  5. I hope you stay migraine free so we can enjoy your wonderful creativity! I need blouse inspiration ….

  6. Oh no I hate migraines cos they hit hard then the after effects lurk about. Great that you’re starting to come right again. Here’s to more settled weather thank you very much.

  7. The silk charmeuse looks luxurious to touch and the colour is so subtle. Lovely.
Hope you will continue to have good weather to keep the migraine away!

  8. I hope you feel better! I just finished a project with charmuese. I should have saved myself trouble and used some sort of spray stabilizer but I didn’t. Instead I took a really long time and basted every seam which while time consuming, it saved a lot of headaches in the end. And there’s something relaxing about hand sewing, ya know?

  9. Hope you start feeling better! As for projects, well, I think I want to make another Ginger for OPOW. And I think it should have lobsters on it, just for giggles.

  10. Oh no! I hope you’re feeling better! I had a boyfriend in college who used to get migraines and they just wrecked him for days! I always felt so bad for him and knew I couldn’t help – except by turning out the lights and leaving him alone!

Anyway – the silk charmeuse looks beautiful (that color is so subtle and interesting!) I can’t wait to see what you make with it!

  11. Can’t wait to see your finished blouse Liz! I’m working on scrub tops for a friend in the medical field–I have to learn welt pockets this week!

  12. ugh, lizz. i hope the weather isn’t playing bocce ball with your head anymore!

  13. I feel you… I get migraines with weather/pressure changes and seasonal allergies. No stuffy nose, just a horribly stuffy, painful head. I’m loving your sewing of late, the most recent skirt and tank are fabulous. The drape is so lovely on the shirt! Your zipper install cracked me up! Sometimes I insert an invisible zip as a regular, centered zip intentionally. And sometimes I zip off the pull of a shortened zip accidentally…. that was a brilliant move 🙂

  14. Oh dear, I hope you feel better and better and they don’t come back. Having only had one in my life, I can tell you I never want to be there again–so numbing. Out of curiosity, what happened with the charmeuse?

  15. so sorry you are feeling icky. good luck with the blouse. i can’t wait to see it.
